abstract An anode includes a thin film of an anode material; and a protective layer that is formed on the thin film of the anode material, that is composed of functionalized metal oxide nanoparticles, which are lithium-terminated sulfonated metal oxide nanoparticles, and that has a thickness of 300-5000 nm. A method for manufacturing the anode includes dispersing the functionalized metal oxide nanoparticles into a dispersion medium to form a dispersion; dipping a substrate into water, and introducing the dispersion thereto so that the functionalized metal oxide nanoparticles form a self-assembled molecular film on the water surface; lifting the substrate over the water surface to transfer the self-assembled molecular film onto the substrate, thereby providing a substrate coated with a functionalized metal oxide film; and transferring the functionalized metal oxide film onto the thin film of the anode material to provide an anode coated with the functionalized metal oxide film.
