abstract A two-photon absorbing (TPA) compound is provided along with a method of making same. The TPA compound has a general structural formula: n nwhere R 1 and R 2 are independently selected from the group consisting of linear or branched alkyl chains having a general formula C n H 2n+1 , n ranges from about 6 to about 20, and ethoxylated alkyls having a general formula R 3 (OCH 2 CH 2 ) m OCH 2 CH 2 —, where R 3 is a C1 to C4 alkyl group, and where m ranges from 0 to about 3; and where Y is selected from the group consisting of H, OH, and alkoxyl groups.
