An acid-impregnated activated carbon matrix, which is made from a carbon-containing material by adding mineral acid, can be used to chemisorb ammonia from a gas stream. Ammonia reacts with acid to form a fertilizer salt. The spent matrix can be used as fertilizer, or the fertilizer salt can be removed from the matrix by washing. |
