Sulfonated diamine of formula (I), wherein A represents hydrogen or a saturated or unsaturated C-alkyl group or an aryl group; B represents a substituted or unsubstituted C-alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkylaryl, arylalkyl or aryl group or alkylamino group and at least one of X, X, Y, Y and Z is a C-alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkylaryl, arylalkyl or alkoxy substituent, and in the case when X, X, Y, Y and Z are not C-alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkylaryl, arylalkyl or alkoxy substituent, then X, X, Y, Y and Z represent hydrogen. Chiral diamine is used for the preparation of catalysts suitable for use in hydrogen transfer reactions (I).
