abstract The invention relates to a method of obtaining trisubstituted salts of methylglycine-N,N-diacetic acid and cations of alkali metals, which have a slight color and a low content of by-products, by alkaline hydrolysis of methylglycine-N,N-diacetonitrile (MGDN). The method includes stages (a), (b), (c) and (f): (a) mixing MGDN with aqueous alkali at a temperature ≤ 30 °С; (b) carrying out the reaction by heating the obtained water-alkaline suspension of MGDN at a temperature of 10 to 30 °C for 1 to 10 hours with the formation of a solution; (c) heating the solution obtained in stage (b) at a temperature of 30 to 40 °C for 1 to 10 hours; (f) hydrolysis of the solution obtained in stage (c) and separation of the formed ammonia by blowing at a temperature from 90 to 105 °C.
