abstract A method of producing 2,3-dichloropyridine is disclosed, which results in the contacting of 3-amino-2-chloropyridine with an alkali metal nitrite in the presence of aqueous hydrochloric acid to form a diazonium salt; and said diazonium salt is then decomposed in the presence of a copper catalyst, where at least 50% of the copper is copper in the oxidation state (II).
