Recombinant factor VIII can be obtained in relatively large quantities continuously from mammalian cells in the absence of mammalian proteins, such as albumin, by culturing the cells in a protein-free medium with the addition of Pluronic F-68 polyol in the presence of trace elements such as copper. In particular advantageous embodiments, the medium comprises copper sulfate, a complex of iron sulfate with ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, and salts of trace elements such as manganese, molybdenum, silicon, lithium, and chromium. |
