abstract The invention relates to nucleoside analogs and their use in medicine. A method of treating a person suffering from a viral infection, comprising a person receiving a pharmaceutical composition containing an agent having antiviral activity, and using a composition containing a compound that is (-) - cis-4-amino-1- (2-hydroxymethyl-1,3 -oxathiolan-5-yl) - (1H) -pyrimidin-2-one, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or pharmaceutically acceptable ester thereof, and another agent having antiviral activity, the amount of the (+) - enantiomer of the compound, its pharmaceutically acceptable salt or its the pharmaceutically acceptable ester is not more than 5 wt.% of the total weight of their (-) and (+) enantiomers.
