titleOfInvention CO-POLYMER CONTAINING A MULTIVALENT CATION, METHOD OF OBTAINING ITS AND ITS APPLICATION IN THE PROCESSING OF AQUATIC DISPERSIONS
abstract Disclosed is a copolymer containing a multivalent cation derived from one or more ethylenically unsaturated acids. The copolymer has the following characteristics: (a) an internal viscosity of at least about 3 DL / g when measured in 1M NaCl solution at 25 ° C; (b) the copolymer is derived from a monomer mixture comprising ethylenically unsaturated acid and at least one comonomer, wherein the ethylenically unsaturated acid is present in an amount ranging from about 5% to about 65% by weight; and (c) the residual comonomer content is less than 1000 ppm when the comonomer is acrylamide. The copolymer, among other things, is acceptable as a flocculant for the treatment of an aqueous suspension, which includes a dispersed material, preferably enrichment waste from mining.
