titleOfInvention METHOD OF ASSESSMENT OF THE STATE OF THE VALVES
abstract The method of assessing the status of the valve apparatus of the atrial-ventricular valves of the heart, involves fixing in 10% neutral formalin whole heart or pieces of segments of the myocardium, carried out on alcohols of increasing concentration, produce paraffin blocks, of which on the microtome produce serial longitudinal sections. The sections are stained. Histological preparations are photographed using a digital camera through a microscope, measuring the angle of position of the valve structures. The angle is measured as follows: draw a line from the apex of the papillary muscle through the tendon chord extending from this apex to the corresponding valve flap, and connect with this flap. From the apex of the adjacent papillary muscle through its tendon chord we draw a line to the opposite flap of the valve. Depending on the plane of the cut, the lines are either normal or parallel, or intersect to form an angle. Normally, the angle is open into the ventricular cavity and can be equal to 22-34 °. In SLGS, the angle is opened into the atrial cavity, which occurs due to the close arrangement of the papillary muscles, and "functional hypoplasia" of the valve occurs, with its relatively anatomically normal size.
