abstract The present invention relates to a method for treating free-form astaxanthin, including a first cleaning process, a second cleaning process, and a third cleaning process in sequence. The first cleaning process includes: washing the free-form astaxanthin with deionized water. The second cleaning process includes: washing the free-form astaxanthin with ethanol having a concentration ranged between 70% and 80%. The third cleaning process includes: washing the free-form astaxanthin with ethanol having a concentration ranged between 90% and 99%. Thereby, the free-form astaxanthin with low microbial content, low heavy metal, low pesticide residue and low animal drug residue is obtained.
