abstract Provided herein are novel tire tread compositions. These tire tread compositions include rubber, terpene-based resins, and at least one filler. The terpene-based resin includes a terpene-based monomer, such as α-pinene, and the resin is referred to as a homopolymer, or the resin includes a combination of several terpene-based monomers selected from the group consisting of: α -Pinene, β-pinene, δ-3pinene, β-phellandrene, and α-pinene, β-pinene, δ-3pinene, δ-2pinene, turpentine pyrolysates and the like combination. The terpene-based resin is generally substantially free of limonene. The terpene-based resin has a softening point of about 80 ° C to about 130 ° C, a number average molecular weight (M n ) in a range of about 500 g / mol to about 775 g / mol, and a glass transition temperature (T g ) of about 38 ° C to about 81 ° C.
