Method and apparatus for an ophthalmic component comprising a liquid crystal forming a network region of a liquid crystal polymer |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for providing a variable optical insert into an ophthalmic lens. The variable optical inserts can have surfaces having different radii of curvature therein. The liquid crystal layer can be used to provide a variable optical function and in some embodiments, the liquid crystal layer can comprise a network of polymer regions of the liquid crystal material in which the gap is located. An energy source is capable of powering the variable optical insert contained within the ophthalmic lens. In some embodiments, the ophthalmic lens is cast molded from a polyoxyhydrogel. Various ophthalmic lens entities can include an electroactive liquid crystal layer to electrically control the refractive properties. |
