The present invention discloses biodegradable devices, such as implants, that deliver therapeutic agents, especially macromolecules such as proteins and antibodies, in a controlled manner. These devices include a silicon-based porous carrier material impregnated with a therapeutic agent. The device can be used to deliver a therapeutic agent in vitro or in vivo, preferably in a controlled manner for a desired period of time (such as days, weeks, or months). The device can be used to treat or prevent a patient's condition, such as a chronic disease. |
