abstract A liquid crystal aligning agent is provided to form a liquid crystal alignment film having high voltage holding rate, low ion density, and low residual DC. A liquid crystal aligning agent comprises solvent and at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of polyamic acids and their derivative. The polyamic acids are obtained by reacting diamine represented by chemical formula (a) and a mixture of the other diamines with tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride. The other diamines are at least one non-side chain type diamine, at least one side chain type diamine, or a mixture of them.
