abstract | A process for producing a polyurethane emulsion is provided which allows continuous production of a polyurethane emulsion which contains substantially no organic solvent, and which has excellent storage stability over time. In a process for producing a polyurethane emulsion by emulsifying a urethane prepolymer having at least two isocyanate groups per molecule in water and allowing chain elongation to take place, the process comprises: (1) a first step in which an emulsifying apparatus comprising a stator section 5 fixed inside a cylindrical casing 1 and a rotor section 3 fixed to a rotational shaft 2, the rotor section 3 having a plurality of rotor teeth 4, the stator section 5 having a plurality of stator teeth 6, which stand face to face with the rotor teeth 4, and the stator section 5 having an inlet port 8 and an outlet port 10, is supplied with the urethane prepolymer and water from the inlet 8, which are continuously emulsified while they are discharged as an emulsion of urethane prepolymer having an average particle diameter of 0.1 to 2.5 mum from the outlet port 10, and then, (2) a second step in which the emulsion of urethane prepolymer obtained in the first step is allowed to react with a chain elongation agent to carry out chain elongation of the urethane prepolymer. |
