An asymmetric bis(indolestyryl) compound having formula (I), wherein A and B are the same or different and are benzene ring, naphthalene ring, or heterocyclic ring containing O, S, or N; R1 and R1' are hydrogen, halogen, C1-5 alkyl group, nitro group, ester group, carboxyl group, sulfo group, C1-3 alkoxy group, amine group, alkylamine group, cyano group, C1-6 alkylsulfonyl group, or C2-7 alkoxy carbonyl group, when A=B, R1<>R1', when A<>B, R1=R1' or R1<>R1'; R2, R2', R3, and R3' are the same or different and are hydrogen, substituted or non-substituted C1-6 straight chain or branched alkyl group, substituted or non-substituted C6-18 aryl group, C2-6 straight chain or branched alkenyl group, C3-6 cyclic alkenyl group, or substituted or non-substituted C3-6 cyclic alkyl group, or R2 and R3, or R2 and R3 are joined together to form a ring or joined to a benzene ring; R4 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxy, halogen, and alkoxy; R5 and R5' are the same or different and are hydrogen, halogen, C1-5 alkyl group, nitro group, C1-3 alkoxy group, amine group, cyano group, C1-6 alkylsulfonyl group, or C2-7 alkoxy carbonyl group; n is 1 to 18; and Z- is an anionic group or an anionic organometallic complex.
