A compound is disclosed, which can be excited by a blue light and/or an ultra-violet light with a wavelength in the range of 380 nm to 480 nm to emit a visible light, as a phosphor. The compound can be represented by the formula, SrxMyAlzSi12-zN16-zO2+z, wherein M is a rare earth metal or Y, x > 0, y > 0, x+y=2, and 0 <= z <= 5. When M is Eu, the compound can be excited by a blue light and/or an ultra-violet light and emit a yellowish green light. |
