abstract A method for cleaving the ether-linkage of polyethoxylates is described. A pure culture of isolate (BCRC910228) is used to transform the terminal ethoxylate (EO) unit into an EO with a carboxylated end and then cleave the neighboring ether bond. This method is useful for the shortage of the polymers containing polyethoxylates at the initial concentration ranging from 0.05% to 20% in aqueous buffer solution. Especially, the function of cleaving ether-linkage is also effective for polymers containing 1 to 3 polyethoxylate units.
