abstract | An image pickup device comprises a color signal generating means (20) which outputs first color signals (R5, G5, B5) corresponding to incident lights; and a matrix arithmetic means (67) which performs matrix arithmetic operation including the multiplication of the first color signals, color signals obtained by exponentiating the first color signals by a first constant (I) used as the exponent, color signals obtained by exponentiating the first color signals by a second constant (j) used as the exponent, and matrix coefficients for these color signals, so as to obtain second color signals (R6, G6, B6). The first and the second constants and the matrix coefficients are determined so as to make the overall characteristics of the color signal generating means (20) and a spectral sensitivity characteristic correction means (6) to be close to the color vision characteristic of human or the spectral sensitivity characteristic obtained by performing a linear conversion to the chromatic sense characteristic of human. Accordingly, excellent color reproducibility can be realized without the use of an infrared cut filter for correcting the color vision in the image pickup device, and image pickup in dark with high sensitivity can be realized. |
