A physical vapor deposition is used to deposit a thin protective layer of tungsten, molybdenum, chromium, etc. or a carbide such as tungsten carbide, titanium carbide, zirconium carbide or nitride such as titanium nitride, zirconium nitride, chromium nitride, etc. on the outer periphery of a heat sink.
