Ultraviolet ray converting material, and display device using such material |
abstract |
The present invention is provided to improve the luminous efficiency of a gas-discharge display device by efficiently using ultraviolet rays which were absorbed by barriers, protective films, or the like, and therefore did not attribute to the excitation of fluorescent substances among the ultraviolet rays generated through electric discharge. In the structural components surrounding a discharge cell of the gas-discharge display device, gadolinium is added to a material other than the fluorescent substance to generate an ultraviolet ray having a wavelength of 315 nm which may excite the fluorescent substance. A visible light is generated by exciting the fluorescent substance with this ultraviolet ray to improve the efficiency of conversion from electric power into light. |
