titleOfInvention | Liquid crystal display apparatus |
abstract | The purpose of the present invention is to make low-voltage driving compatible with high display quality in an active-driving type IPS liquid crystal display using a liquid crystal having a negative dielectric anisotropy. This liquid crystal display 50 comprises a pair of glass substrates 1, 14, a liquid crystal 9, a common electrode 2 and a pixel electrode 5 formed on the substrate 1 so as to generate an electric field 25 having a component parallel to the substrate surface under applied voltage, together with a signal electrode 6 and a TFT 16, alignment films 8, 10 formed on the substrates 1, 14, and a polarizing plate 15. In the liquid crystal display 50, the liquid crystal 9 contains liquid crystal molecules having dicyanobenzene structures and a negative dielectric anisotropy. Thus, a low-voltage driving is made possible while voltage retention is maintained in a tolerable range wherein the allowance of degrading the display quality of a liquid crystal display. |
