abstract | The invention relates to an optical density inspection device, wherein a first 0.7 μm light beam (B1) from a first light source (12) not transmitting shred tobacco (LS) and a second 1.3 μm light beam (B2) from a second light source (14) transmitting the shred tobacco (LS) are combined into a synthesized light beam (B12) for radiation onto a tobacco rod (TR). Projection, reflection and transmittion quantities of light of the first and second light beams (B1, B2) are measured by composite light receiving elements (27, 43, 57), a light projection quantity control circuit (36) and computation circuit (48). The computation circuit (48) calculates the light transmittion quantity of the second light beam (B2) transmitting the shred tobacco (LS) based on the projection, reflection and transmittion quantities of light of the first and second light beams (B1, B2), and then the density of the shred tobacco (LS) based on the light transmittion quantity can be calculated. |
