abstract | A polarizing plate is formed from polymer films and polarizing films. The retardation axis of the polymer film and the transmission axis of the polarizing film meet substantially at an angle of 45 DEG. The transmittance of the polarizing film ranges from 30% to 50%. The polarization degree of the polarizing film ranges from 90% to 100%. When an incident light at 450 nm comes from the polarizing film side of the polarizing plate, the transmittance of the one parallel to transmission axis and the transmittance of the one perpendicular to the transmission axis are in a ratio (T//(450)/T⊥(450)) satisfying the following formula (1). Furthermore, when an incident light at 590 nm comes from the polarizing film side, the transmittance of the one parallel to transmission axis and the transmittance of the one perpendicular to the transmission axis are in a ratio (T//(590)/T⊥(590)) satisfying the following formula (II). (I) 0.6 ≤ T//(450)/T⊥(450) ≤ 1.5, (II) 0.6 ≤ T//(590)/T⊥(590) ≤ 1.5. |
