This invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions and methods for treating alopecia and promoting hair growth using pipecolic acid derivatives. A pharmaceutical composition for treating alopecia or promote hair growth in animal, comprising an effective amount of a pipecolic acid derivative of the formula, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, ester, or solvale, thereof, wherein: X is O or 2H; R, is C2-C3 straight or branched chain alkyl or alkenyl, wherein said alkyl or alkenyl is optionally substituted in one or more positions with C2-C3 alkyl, pyridyl, phenyl, cyclohexyl, or (3,4-methyiene dioxyphenyl) wherein said C2-C3 alkyl, pyridyi, phenyl, or cyclohexyl is optionally substituted in one or more positions with methoxy, choloro, 3-(3,4-methylenedioxy)phenyl propyl; and R2 is C1-C5 straight or branched chain alkyl, phenyl, or cyclohexyl, wherein said R2 may be substituted with methoxy oxygen, oxy, and methyl; or said R1 and R2 can be joined together to form the compound (22aS)-15,15-dimethylperhydropyrido [2,1-c] [1,9,4] dioxazacyclunonadecinc-1,12,16,17-tct.raone. |
