abstract To provide a non-chrome liquid composition for a conversion treatment of a magnesium-containing metal material, the composition being capable of forming a conversion coating which retains excellent corrosion- and rust-resistant properties, paint adhesion, etc. for a long period, and further applicable at a relatively low temperature and for a short-time treatment, and to provide a surface treatment method therefor and a surface treated product thereof. A liquid composition for a conversion treatment of a magnesium-containing metal material comprises a calcium ion, a manganese ion and a phosphate ion as well as an aqueous solution containing a pro-oxidant.
