abstract Provided according to the present invention is a process for the preparation of a polyprenol represented by the following formula (1): wherein Y and Z individually represent a hydrogen atom or are coupled together to form a carbon-carbon bond; R represents a hydrogen atom or a protective group of a hydroxyl group; and n stands for 0 or an integer not smaller than 1, which comprises bringing an organic complex of an alkaline metal into contact with a compound represented by the following formula (2): wherein concerning V, W and X, V represents a halogen atom, while W and X are coupled together to form a carbon-carbon bond or X represents a halogen atom, while V and W are coupled together to form a carbon-carbon bond; A represents a protective group of a hydroxyl group; and Y, Z and n have the same meanings as defined above.
