abstract |
β-phenylisoserine derivatives of formula are stereoselectively prepared by the action of an N-carbonylbenzylimine of formula Ar-CH=N-CO-R on an optically active amide of a protected hydroxyacetic acid of formula followed by hydrolysis of the product obtained. In formulae (I), (II) and (III), R represents an unsubstituted or substituted phenyl radical or a radical R1-O-, Ar represents an unsubstituted or substituted aryl radical and G1 represents a hydroxyl-protecting group. The products of formula (I) are especially useful for the preparation of taxol and taxotere, which possess noteworthy antitumour properties. |
