abstract The present invention relates to an automatic detection system and method utilizing bar code positioning for detecting the color surface of a 3D object having a bar code. The system comprises a light source device, an image capture device, and a operating process device. The image capture device can capture images of a 3D object in any direction, so as to form a 2D plane that can represent the surface of the 3D object. Then, bar code positioning can be applied to adjust the position of the object's plane image, and the operating process device can be used to compare the obtained plane image with the pre-stored image so as to find defects on the surface of the test object. The present detection system and method can provide fast detection of a high forward read rate to complete the quality control operation on the production lines.
