Ortho-substituted benzoylguanidines of the formula I in which R2 and R3 have the meanings given in the claims, are suitable, as antiarrhythmic pharmaceuticals having a cardioprotective component, for the prophylaxis and treatment of infarction and for the treatment of angina pectoris. They also inhibit, in a preventive manner, the pathophysiological processes associated with the development of ischemically induced damage, in particular in association with the triggering of ischemically induced cardiac arrhythmias. An ortho-substituted benzoylguanidine of the formula I in which: either one of R2 and R3 is hydrogen, and the other one is selected from C1, Br, I, (C1-C8)-alkyl, (C3-C8)-cycloaklyl or -OR5; R5 is (C1-C8)-alkyl or -CdH2d-(C3-C8)-cycloalkyl; d is zero, 1 or 2; and the pharmaceutically tolerated salts thereof. |
