titleOfInvention | Process for conversion of ethylbenzene |
abstract | A process for conversion of ethylbenzene to benzene and/or xylenes which process comprises: (a) passing at least a portion of a C8 aromatics stream comprising ethylbenzene to a zeolite membrane comprising a molecular sieve membrane, such that at least a portion of the ethylbenzene passes through the molecular sieve membrane to the permeate side of the membrane, wherein the zeolite membrane unit is operated at a temperature of 170 to 500 DEG C, the stream is fed to the zeolite membrane unit at a pressure of between 1 to 35 atm and the pressure on the permeate side of the membrane is lower than the feedstream pressure, and (b) converting the ethylbenzene in at least a portion of said permeate to benzene and/or xylenes, wherein the conversion is undertaken with a conversion catalyst at a temperature of between 400 to 900 DEG F, a pressure within the range 25 to 500 psig and at a WHSV of 0.5 to 20. |
