abstract A C8-C10 branched tertiary alkyl primary amine mixture is disclosed which is useful as a multi-functional additive in fuels, lubricants, and dyes. The subject amines are prepared by reacting an acid, a nitrile, a C8-C10 substrate in the presence of water to form a first intermediate product; further reacting the first intermediate with an acid in the presence of water to form a second intermediate product and neutralizing the second intermediate with a basic compound to form the product.
