abstract The invention concerns an alkylation process comprising: (a) introducing at least benzene and at least an olefin and/or alcohol, at least a portion of the liquid effluent from (c) and compounds from the penultimate step below into a reaction zone R and bringing them into contact with a catalysts, (b) introducing a major portion of the effluent from R into a separation zone SGL, (c) recycling a portion of the liquid effluent from SGL to R, (d) introducing a further portion of the liquid effluent from SGL into a separation zone S from which gas, benzene, polyalkylated and monoalkylated hydrocarbons in particular can be extracted, then: recycling a major portion of the benzene and at least a portion of the polyalkylated compounds from S to R, removing gas, polyalkylated compounds (purge) and alkylated compounds (product) from S. The invention also concerns the use of said process for production of ethylbenzene or cumene.
