titleOfInvention | Method for purifying sodium formaldehydesulfoxylate |
abstract | The invention relates to a method for purifying sodium formaldehydesulfoxylate which is a compound of value as a reducing agent for redox polymerization, a printing agent for cellulosic textiles, and so on. The method comprises producing an aqueous solution of sodium formaldehydesulfoxylate using zinc, sulfurous acid and formaldehyde, adding a stoichiometric excess of sodium sulfide to the aqueous solution for separation of heavy metals, assaying sodium sulfide which remains in the solution, and adding a metal halide in an equivalent amount with respect to the sodium sulfide so assayed to the solution for separating the sulfide as the metal sulfide. By this method, the concentration of heavy metals and that of sodium sulfide in the product can be easily and exactly controlled to sufficiently low levels so that a high purity grade of sodium formaldehydesulfoxylate can be obtained on a constant basis. |
