titleOfInvention Process for preparing 1,3-dioxolane-4-methanol compound
abstract A process for preparing 1,3-dioxolane-4-methanol compound of the formula (5), (in which R1 and R2 are the same or different and represent a hydrogen atom, C1-C4-alkyl or phenyl, and R1 and R2 can form a C3-C6-cycloalkyl by combining with an adjacent carbon atom); which is characterized in reacting 3-halogeno-1,2-propanediol of the formula (1a), (in which X represents a halogen atom) or a glycidol of the formula (1b): with an alcohol of the formula (2), (in which R represents aralkyl or alkyl) in the presence of a base; acelatating the resultant 3-alkoxy-1,2-propanediol of the formula (3), (in which R is defined in the above) in the presence of an acid catalyst, and further conducting hydrogenation in the presence of a reduction catalyst to prepare a 1,3-dioxolane-4-methanol compound (4), (in which R, R1 and R2 are defined in the above).
