abstract |
A process for the manufacture of particles, preferably sustained release particles, which comprises: (a) mechanically working a mixture of a particulate drug and a particulate hydrophobic and/or hydrophilic fusible carrier having a melting point of 35 to 150℃ and optionally a release control component comprising a water soluble fusible material or a particulate soluble/insoluble organic or inorganic material in a high shear mixer in a speed and energy input sufficient to melt or soften the carrier or the diluent thereby forming agglomerates; (b) extruding the material obtained in step (a) to form fine particles through a plurality of extrusion holes. |
