abstract A process for purifying acetic acid, which is characterized in that a raw material solution having 10-50 wt% of a concentration of acetic acid is introduced into an extraction apparatus, an extracting agent containing 0.6-3.0 times (the weight of the raw material) of isopropyl acetate is fed to the extraction apparatus and the acetic acid is extracted at the extracting agent phase, the extract is fed to an azeotropic distillation tower; water and the extract are azeotropic distillated; the distillate from the top of the tower is separated into a poor water phase being rich in isopropyl acetate and a rich water phase being rich in water, at least one part of the poor water phase is circulated to the above mentioned extraction apparatus as the extracting agent, and the dehydrated purified acetic acid is recovered from the bottom of the azeotropic distillation tower.
