abstract The present invention relates to a detergent composition which is able to remove agricultural chemicals, bacteria and other contaminants from fruit and vegetables without deteriorating their freshness, and which is free from toxic effect on human body and free from pollutive effect on the environment. According to the invention there is provided a detergent composition comprising polyoxyethylene sorbitan mono-laurate, sodium citrate (potassium citrate or the mixture thereof) and optionally sucrose fatty acid ester.
