abstract | A process for the production of1-substituted-5(4H)-tetrazolinones represented by the general formula:(see formula I) in which R1 represents optionally substituted C1-12 alkyl, optionally substituted C3-8 cycloalkyl, optionally substituted C3-8 alkenyl, optionally substituted C3-8 alkynyl, or a group represented by the general formula (see below the formula I) in which Ar represents optionally substituted phenyl, optionally substituted naphthyl or an optionally substituted five-to seven-membered heterocyclic ring, R3 represents hydrogen or C1-4 alkyl, and n is 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, which comprises reacting the thioxo group of 1-substituted-5(4H)-tetrazolinethiones represented by the general formula (II) (see formula II) in which R1 has the same meaning as mentioned above, with ethylene oxides of the general formula (III) (see formula III) in which R2 represents hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, in the presence of a base, and in the presence of water or an alcohol or a solvent mixture thereof. |
