abstract The present invention provides a liquid crystal aligning agent capable of obtaining a liquid crystal aligning film having high transparency, little accumulation of electric charges, and rapid relaxation of accumulated residual electric charges. A liquid crystal alignment agent containing a compound (P) having a partial structure (A) represented by formula (1) is prepared. *-Y 1 -A 1 -A 2 -Y 2 -* (1) In formula (1), A 1 and A 2 are each independently a group selected from the group consisting of a pyrrole ring, a furan ring, and a thiophene ring. A divalent group of a condensed ring structure of an aromatic ring is condensed at the 2, 3-position and 4, 5-position of at least one heteroaromatic ring in the group, respectively. Among them, in A 1 and A 2 , at least one carbon atom of the aromatic ring constituting the condensed ring structure is bonded to each other through a single bond. Y 1 and Y 2 are divalent organic groups bonded to the condensed ring structure in A 1 or A 2 using a carbon atom, oxygen atom, sulfur atom or * 5 -NR 5 -CO-, or * 2 -NR 4 -* 3 .
