The invention provides a [beta]-SiAlON phosphor containing a solid solution of europium, wherein if the ratio, obtained by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurement, of elemental aluminum at a depth of 8 nm from the surface of the phosphor is deemed P8 [at%] and the ratio of elemental aluminum at a depth of 80 nm from the surface of the phosphor is deemed P80 [at%], then P8/P80 ≤ 0.9. The invention also provides a light-emitting device that includes this [beta]-SiAlON phosphor. |
