abstract The present invention relates to an elongated smoking article that extends in a longitudinal direction. The elongated smoking article comprises a heatable tobacco material and a filter element aligned with the smoking body. The filter element has at least one filter portion and at least one hollow section, wherein the at least one hollow section is disposed between the smoking body and at least one of the at least one filer portion. The filter element is sheathed by a tipping paper together with the smoking body. The filter portion ncomprises a material for reducing unwanted substances from an aerosol and a hollow section has a barrier layer disposed on its inner surface and a carrier layer disposed on the barrier layer.
