abstract | The present invention provides a pharmaceutical composition for application to the oral mucosa comprising a water-soluble film matrix comprising an effective amount of a pharmaceutically active agent and an absorption enhancer. The present invention further provides the method of delivering the pharmaceutically active agent comprising administering the pharmaceutical composition. The water-soluble matrix of the present invention can be incorporated into a solid, a film or a liquid oral dosage form for insertion into the mouth as a means for effectively delivering to and transporting pharmaceutical active agents selectively through the oral mucosal tissue into the patient. Said the water-soluble matrix system delivers the pharmaceutical active agent effectively and rapidly into the body through the mucous membranes in the mouth which is ideally suited for delivering pharmaceutically active agents which treat or prevent such as asthma, multiple sclerosis, venous thromboembolism, and angina. |
