abstract Providing a method for producing a tetrafluoromethane tetrafluoromethane can be safely and inexpensively provided without providing a reaction device that is not easily damaged. The chemical formula C p H q Cl r F s (the p in the above chemical formula is an integer of 3 or more and 18 or less, q is an integer of 0 or more and 3 or less, r is an integer of 0 or more and 9 or less, and s is 5 or more and 30 or less. In the integer), the fluorine-containing gas is introduced into the raw material liquid of the fluorinated hydrocarbon having no carbon-carbon unsaturated bond and the reaction-inducing agent to produce tetrafluoromethane. The reaction inducing agent is a halogen-containing carbon compound which is liquid at normal temperature and normal pressure, and reacts with a fluorine gas to induce a reaction of producing tetrafluoromethane from a fluorinated hydrocarbon and a fluorine gas. When the total amount of the fluorinated hydrocarbon and the reaction-inducing agent contained in the raw material liquid is 100% by mass, the content of the reaction-inducing agent is more than 0% by mass and 10% by mass or less.
