The present invention relates to a honeycomb base material for catalyst support and a catalyst converter for exhaust gas purification. Its subject is to improve the adhesion between the catalyst layer and the oxide film in the honeycomb base material for catalyst support. The solution is a honeycomb base material for catalyst support used for exhaust gas purification, which is characterized by having a honeycomb body, and an oxide film formed on the surface of the honeycomb body and using alpha alumina as a main component.
