| abstract |
A biological indicator with variable resistance can be controlled by moving one of the caps or the housing of the biological indicator so that the effective size of the vent size that allows sterilant to flow through the housing is reduced or increased. An indicator window can display the current resistance of the biological indicator to the user, and can also display a readable indicator that can be captured by a scanner to allow a sterilizer to recognize the current resistance. When the resistance level indicated by the readable indicator is incompatible with one of the sterilization cycles selected by the user, the procedure can be delayed and the user is notified of the problem. The readable indicator can be a passive tag with a memory that allows information to be read and written so that the biological indicator can carry data from one device to another. |
