abstract An object of the present invention is to provide an EVOH-based resin composition (pellet) which can effectively prevent surging without increasing the boron content and ensuring a desired melt viscosity, and a method for producing the same. In the EVOH-based resin composition containing boric acid, the boric acid contains boron having a tetracoordinate structure. The EVOH-based resin paste is brought into contact with an aqueous solution containing a boric acid and an alkali metal salt in a state of containing 300 to 1000 ppm of an alkali metal salt per unit of the EVOH-based resin by heating under pressure, and the boric acid may be used. Boron 4 is coordinated.
