Quantum dot based illumination device for animal husbandry and aquarium |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a luminaire for promoting animal development, comprising: a backlight, such as an array of LEDs or LEDs; and a series of one or more retractable, rotatable or interchangeable lenses, etc. The quantum dots enable the color and/or color temperature of the light emitted by the luminaire to be altered and optimized during animal development. A luminaire adapted for use in an aquarium can be a form factor of a standard fluorescent tube and includes one or more LEDs and a film containing quantum dots for downconverting at least a portion of the light emitted by the LEDs To provide an optimal display wavelength for photosynthesis by aqua plants while providing attractive display illumination for ornamental fish. |
