abstract The present disclosure provides some embodiments relating to magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM) components. This element includes a bottom electrode having a central bottom electrode portion surrounded by a peripheral bottom electrode portion. The stepped region of the conductive bottom electrode interconnects the central bottom electrode portion and the peripheral bottom electrode portion such that the upper surface of the central bottom electrode portion is relatively recessed to the upper surface of the peripheral bottom electrode portion. A magnetic tunneling junction (MTJ) having an outer sidewall of the MTJ disposed above the central bottom electrode portion and arranged between the step regions. A top electrode disposed above the upper surface of the MTJ. The present disclosure provides other apparatus and methods as well.
